LEGO Star Wars 75351 Leia (Boushh) Helmet was tricky
The LEGO Star Wars design team has revealed just how tricky it was to accurately create 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet. Three new LEGO Star Wars helmet sets are available right now, with the models based on iconic headgear worn by characters in The Clone Wars and Return of the Jedi. 75349 Captain Rex Helmet, 75350 Clone Commander Cody Helmet and 75351 Princess Leia (Boushh) Helmet are the latest additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection, with the latter build offering up its own unique challenges for the set's designers. Brick Fanatics recently interviewed the LEGO Star Wars design team as they discussed why they chose to develop Boushh's helmet as a model to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi.
"Well, we were talking about it a lot," said Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, Creative Lead on the LEGO Star Wars theme. "It's such a cool helmet.
I also think one of the main things was, it's great to bring in a female character's helmet. So that was one thing that meant a lot, because Princess Leia is so cool." "As you can see in our colour palette," Frederiksen continued, "it's also something we discussed with Lucasfilm - what did they think was the most accurate?
What's the closest in appearance? How does it look in the movie? It's a dark sequence and the photo references of the scene were also dark.
I remember we had this exact same discussion on the visor on (75327) Luke Skywalker (Red Five) Helmet. We didn't have the exact correct transparent colour and so we ended up doing what was seen in the movie, because that's the reference point for most people."
Designer Cesar Soares added, "Yeah, if you see the (Boushh) prop, it's kind of yellowish in the movie, it's more orange. We always try to get the exact colour and compare it to the original reference, especially with the bottom part of the Boushh helmet.
There is kind of a leather bit that goes around it. I think that the colour we chose was the best one we could find, but of course sometimes you really, really want a new colour in the LEGO colour palette!"
