LEGO releasing classic Land Rover Defender set for car-lovers

LEGO is releasing a brand new 2,336 piece set modelled on the classic Land Rover Defender 90.

A must-have for car lovers, the huge new item is based on the classic design of the car between 1983 and 2016, and will be out to coincide with Land Rover's 75th anniversary.

The set - which will go on sale on the LEGO Store from April 1 at GBP209.99 - includes fully functioning steering, doors and hood, two engine options, three hood options and working suspension and interior details.

The set also comes with spare tires, a roof rack with extra work lights, an engine snorkel and an off-road front bumper with extra protection and a working winch.

On top of that are accessories such as side rails, jerrycans, a toolbox and jack, a shovel, a pickaxe, a hammer and axe, a fire extinguisher, as well as traction plates for crossing mud and sand.

LEGO has launched the set by placing a real yellow Land Rover Defender in a hard-to-reach part of the Scottish Highlands, now dubbed "the hardest to reach LEGO Store in the world".

They challenged Raha Moharrak, the first Saudi woman to climb Mount Everest and the Seven Summits, and Scottish adventurer and extreme locations expert Aldo Kane to tackle the climb to reach the store, before building the set in extreme weather conditions.

"Bringing the iconic Classic Land Rover Defender to brick life was no easy challenge," said LEGO design master Kurt Kristiansen. "This prestigious car can take you anywhere, so during the design process we wanted to infuse the LEGO set with that sense of adventure.

"The two-in-one format means you can load up with all the necessary kit, whether you want to race through the Scottish like our adventurers Raha Moharrak and Aldo Kane, navigate water or even sandy dunes. We can't wait to see fans' reactions."
